India reports 3.5% drop in domestic air travellers for April

Airlines across India flew 13.8 million domestic passengers in April, compared with 14.3 million air travellers transported in the same month last year. Read More » Directorate General for Civil Aviation (DGCA) data shows LCC IndiGo held onto its top spot as the country’s dominant domestic carrier with 8.98 million passengers, or 65% of the local market. Runner-up was Air India Group with 3.4 million passengers (24.7% market share) followed by Akasa Air at 795,000 customers (5.8% market share). Akasa Air’s domestic passenger load factor topped the table at 91.8%, followed by IndiGo (82.7%) and Air India Group at 78.5%. IndiGo had the highest percentage of on-time flights at India’s 10 major airports in April at 88.5%, followed by Air India Group and Akasa Air at 82.4% and 81.4%, respectively.
