Japan Airlines posts mixed passenger numbers for May

Japan Airlines (JAL) reported a slight decline in passenger traffic on its domestic operations in May, while its international networks managed slight growth during the 31 days. Read More » The oneworld alliance member reported 3.13 million passengers flown on its flights within Japan last month, down 0.9% from 3.15 million carried in the same month a year earlier. Capacity, or available seat kilometres (ASK) was 0.5% lower for the month, while revenue passenger kilometres, a measure of demand, fell 0.2%. Domestic passenger load factor rose 0.2 of a percentage point to 80.9%. There was some growth at JAL’s international operations, which had 662,956 passengers last month, up 0.4% from 660,540 in May 2025. Capacity rose 0.9%, while demand fell 1.7%. International passenger load factor fell 2.2 percentage points to 84.5%.
