Singapore Airlines (SIA) is raising 1.5 billion yuan (US$220 million) in fresh capital through the issuance of five-year notes to institutional and accredited investors. The notes will have a fixed interest rate of 2.38% and mature on 30 June 2031. “The net proceeds from the issue of the notes under the programme (after deducting issue expenses) will be used by the company for aircraft purchases and aircraft related payments and general corporate or working capital purposes, including refinancing of existing borrowings of the company,” SIA said in a regulatory filing. “Bank of China Limited, Singapore Branch, DBS Bank Ltd., The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited and Standard Chartered Bank (Singapore) Limited are the joint lead managers.”
Thai Airways International (THAI) has taken delivery of its first 787-9 powered by GEnx engines. The aircraft joins the THAI fleet from aircraft lessor AerCap. “We are delighted to welcome our first new GE-powered 787-9 to the fleet, another milestone that reflects our long partnership with AerCap,” THAI CEO, Chai Eamsiri, said. “The aircraft’s efficiency and range allow us to grow our network while offering our passengers a more comfortable, modern way to fly.” The Star Alliance member has 13 787 family aircraft in its fleet, albeit not all are operational. THAI’s order book with AerCap included four A350-900s, three 787-9s and 10 Airbus A321neos. It also has orders for 45 Dreamliner family aircraft with Boeing. “Our relationship with THAI is decades long and this milestone delivery is a testament to our long-standing partnership,” AerCap chief commercial officer, Peter Anderson, said.
