Australia’s international air travellers increased 9.2% in February

There were 3.7 million international airline passengers flying into and out of Australia in February, an increase of 9.2% from 3.3 million in the same month in 2025. Read More » The monthly report from Australia’s Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE) said Qantas Group’s Qantas Airways led the market with a 15.2% share of all passengers, down from 15.8% a year earlier. The other Qantas Group airline, Jetstar Airways, was second with a 12.7% share, up 0.7 of a percentage point from February 2025. Singapore Airlines (SIA) was Australia’s largest foreign carrier in the 28 days at 8.2%, followed by Air New Zealand (6.4%) and Cathay Pacific Airways (4.5%). One in five passengers, or about 20% flying into and out of Australia in February did so on an LCC, the BITRE report said, up from 19.3% in the same month in 2025 and 19.2% in February 2024. Total seats into and out of Australia rose 8.2% year-on-year in February to 4.7 million. SIA topped the table for international freight for the month with a 13.8% market share, ahead of Qantas (9.1%) and Cathay Pacific (7.7%).
