India’s IndiGo has introduced a new entry-level fare option, ‘IndiGo Lite’, for economy class passengers traveling only with cabin baggage. Read More » It will be available for booking exclusively on IndiGo’s direct channels starting July 1, 2026, for travel effective July 15, 2026. Passengers with this fare will be allowed to bring on board 7 kg of carry-on baggage and will be assigned a seat. They will be allowed to purchase add-ons such as checked baggage, preferred seats, meals, and priority services separately. The Lite ticket holders will still earn and redeem loyalty points. “Designed for customers who travel light and would like to pay only for the services they need, IndiGo Lite is another step towards building a strong, fit-for-purpose product portfolio. This reflects our agility in responding to the market dynamics while reinforcing our commitment to making travel more accessible and affordable for our customers,” Aloke Singh, Chief Strategy Officer at IndiGo, commented.

The introduction of the entry-level fare option is seen as a move to attract the most price-sensitive passengers; at the same time, rising operations costs, such as jet fuel, put pressure on higher ticket prices. Last month, Air India also introduced a basic economy fare without complimentary meals for “price-conscious travelers”.
