Air China flags 2026 first half loss to be greater than prior year

Air China said it expected to report a first half net loss of between 2.1 billion yuan and 2.6 billion yuan (US$310 million to US$380 million) for the six months to June 30 2026 as elevated fuel prices impacted its bottom line. Read More » The forecast, provided by the company in a regulatory filing, represented a deterioration from the net loss of 1.8 billion yuan for the same six-month period in 2025. "While the company recorded substantial profits in the first quarter, jet fuel prices stayed elevated due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, drastically squeezing profit margins of airline companies," Air China said. "Accordingly, the company expects to post a loss in its operating results for the first half of 2026."
Air China reported passenger numbers rose 3.4% to 79.7 million in the six months to June 30, compared with the prior corresponding period.
