Jetstar touches down in Colombo

Read More » The inaugural JQ5, operated by 787-8 registration VH-VKA departed Melbourne Tullamarine a little after 1300 local time and landed in Colombo about nine hours and 45 minutes later. The aircraft was on the ground about two hours and 40 minutes before taking off as the reciprocal JQ6 to Tullamarine. The Qantas Group LCC has scheduled three flights a week on the Melbourne-Colombo route. "Sri Lanka has so much to offer, and we’re excited to make it more affordable for Australians to experience its beautiful beaches, incredible wildlife, rich culture and world-class food," Jetstar group CEO, Stephanie Tully said. "We’ve already seen strong demand for flights, and Victoria is home to Australia’s largest Sri Lankan community, so we’re expecting the route to be popular with holidaymakers and those visiting family and friends." Jetstar is the second airline offering nonstop flights between Melbourne and Colombo alongside SriLankan Airlines. Melbourne Airport CEO, Lorie Argus, said: "We’re delighted to see Jetstar expand its long-haul network from Melbourne, giving Victorians easier, more affordable access to one of Asia’s most vibrant destinations in Colombo."
