China Eastern reports 2.2 billion yuan interim loss

China Eastern Airlines (CEA) has reported a net loss of 2.2 billion yuan (US$324 million) for the six months to June 30 2026, a 700 million yuan deterioration from the net loss of 1.4 billion yuan in the same period in 2025. Read More » Revenue rose 11.2% to 74.2 billion yuan, CEA said in a regulatory filing. Total operating costs were 14.2% higher at 79.7 billion yuan. The airline group noted its fuel bill increased 36.2% year-on-year in the half. "Faced with severe challenges arising from the volatile situation in the Middle East, the company promptly established a dedicated task force to address high fuel prices," the SkyTeam alliance member said. "In the second half of 2026, the company will remain steadfast and unwavering in pursuing its annual operating plan."
