China Southern Airlines doubles net loss in H1 2026

China Southern Airlines (CSA) has reported a net loss of 3.7 billion yuan (US$550 million) for the six months to June 30 2026, more than double the net loss of 1.5 billion yuan in the same six months last year. Read More » It was the largest net loss among Mainland China’s so-called big three carriers, dwarfing the net losses of 2.3 billion yuan and 2.2 billion yuan announced by Air China and China Eastern Airlines, respectively. Revenue was 9.7% higher at 94.7 billion yuan, the airline said in a regulatory filing. Operating expenses at CSA rose 17% to 99.3 billion yuan. The company said its flight operation expenses increased by 25.2% in the half "mainly due to the surge in fuel costs caused by the impact of high and volatile oil prices" in the first half of calendar 2026. "The industry faced increasing uncertainties in the external environment, and the operating pressures on airlines remain considerable," CSA said. "In the second half of 2026, the group will stay confident and tackle challenges head-on."
