Malaysia Airports signs MOU to facilitate streamlined exports of durian, and other produce to Mainland China

Malaysia Airports, China Henan Aviation Group and Tropika Makmur Manufacturing have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop a "Smart Durian Fast Track", to enable, "faster, more visible and better-coordinated movement of Malaysian durians and other time-sensitive agricultural products" between Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport. Read More » Elements of the fast track included improvements spanning handling and inspection, free zone access, customs coordination, and permit and certification visibility. "Air cargo is an important enabler of Malaysia’s industrial competitiveness," Malaysia Airports managing director, Dato’ Mohd Izani Ghani, said. "Through this collaboration, we are bringing together the airport, aviation and agri-trade ecosystems to enable Malaysian perishables to move through the supply chain more efficiently, with greater visibility and predictability. Through the Smart Durian Fast Track, KLIA will serve as a practical test bed to advance a more seamless cargo journey within the broader Ministry of Transport-led Air Cargo Reform." Tropika Makmur Manufacturing chair, Dato’ Suffian Awang, said, Malaysia’s annual durian exports by value reached 1.5 billion ringgit (US$371 million) in 2023, with China contributing 1.2 billion ringgit.
