IndiGo has increased the fuel surcharge on all domestic and international flights due to the rising cost of aviation fuel. Read More » The LCC said aviation fuel prices had risen to their highest level over the past decade. For domestic flights, the fuel surcharge starts at 375 rupee (US$3.89) for routes of less than 500km, up 36.4% from 275 rupee in April, rising to 1,300 rupee for routes of more than 2,000km, up 36.8% from 950 rupee previously. The airline has also increased the fuel surcharge on international routes, with flights to Southeast Asia destinations rising to a flat 5,500 rupee, compared with 3,500 rupee for flights below 2,000km and 5,000 rupee for flights longer than 2,000km. The fuel surcharge for European destinations is unchanged at 10,000 rupee. "While offsetting the increase in fuel costs would have required a significantly larger increase in the fuel charges, IndiGo has implemented a measured and relatively modest adjustment to minimise the impact on customers," IndiGo said. "IndiGo regrets the additional burden these revised fuel charges may place on its customers. However, the decision reflects the sustained increase in operating costs and the evolving market environment."
