October 15th 2026
Japan Airlines (JAL) announced it will introduce the Embraer E190-E2 as the successor to the Embraer E170/E190 regional fleet operated by J-AIR. Read More » The carrier ordered 26 aircraft (16 firm orders and 10 options), with deliveries scheduled to begin in fiscal year 2029.
JAL noted that the domestic aviation sector has faced rapid changes in its operating environment in recent years, including declining business demand, long-term demographic shifts, and rising costs driven by inflation and currency headwinds. To address these challenges, the JAL Group is advancing business structure reforms outlined in its growth strategy, the “JAL Group Management Vision 2035,” to maintain and develop a sustainable domestic network as essential social infrastructure for Japan. JAL positions the introduction of the E190-E2 aircraft at the core of its long-term strategy for J-AIR to be the “most trusted and accessible airline” for local communities. “In the future society envisioned under the “JAL Group Management Vision 2035,” the domestic network serves as vital social infrastructure supporting local economies and everyday life across Japan. With the introduction of this aircraft, we will maintain and develop a sustainable air network for the next generation, contributing to Japan’s future. We look forward to offering our customers a new and even more comfortable travel experience in the skies,” said Mitsuko Tottori, President & Group CEO of Japan Airlines.
