Read More » The inaugural AY145, operated by A350-900 registration OH-LWO, landed at Tullamarine at about 0715 local time yesterday (October 26). The aircraft was on the ground for about five hours before taking off as the AY146 bound for Helsinki, via Suvarnabhumi. The airline will fly to Melbourne, via Suvarnabhumi, daily. It joins British Airways and Turkish Airlines as Europe-based carriers serving Australia with their own aircraft. "This is an important milestone for us, bringing Finnair’s own flights to Australia for the first time and creating a new daily connection between Melbourne, Finland and the rest of Europe," Finnair chief revenue officer, Christine Rovelli, said. Melbourne Airport CEO, Lorie Argus, said: "We’re proud to see the blue and white tail on our tarmac. Thanks to fifth-freedom rights, passengers can book with Finnair to access Bangkok or a well-earned break on Thailand’s renowned beaches. Alternatively, people can make the most of this new service to see Finland’s stunning northern lights or visit Europe’s cultural capitals."
