AirAsia launches airline in Cambodia

Capital A’s aviation arm, AirAsia Aviation Group Ltd, is establishing a joint venture in Cambodia with hospitality company and consultancy, Sivilai Asia. Read More » AirAsia Cambodia will be the LCC group’s fifth airline alongside its existing carriers in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand. “We are confident of achieving profitability in the first year. Cambodia is a market familiar to us and we have deep infrastructure in place there, Capital A CEO, Tony Fernandes said. “It is why all our future airlines will be based in ASEAN. This is a region we know well. We can derive quick profitability and connect our very large network to Cambodia’s major destinations of Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville.” AirAsia Cambodia will be launched with capital of US$25 million and is planned to begin commercial flying in late 2023. Sivilai Asia director, Vissoth Nam, added: “An increase in connectivity alongside best value fares will certainly stimulate demand for air travel amongst the population due to increased airline and destination choices.”
