ICAO asks North Korea to discontinue disruptive radio interference

The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) has called on North Korea to comply with international obligations and cease disruptive activities particularly Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) radio frequency interference. Read More » The disruptions within the Incheon Flight Information Region (FIR) started in October last year and were originating from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), ICAO said. “These incidents jeopardise the safety of international air navigation and contradict principles enshrined in the Convention on International Civil Aviation and its Annexes,” ICAO said. “The Council strongly urges the DPRK to fully implement those previous decisions and to comply strictly with its obligations under the Chicago Convention. The Council has reiterated its call to the DPRK to ensure similar occurrences do not recur in the future.” ICAO is considering reporting this matter to the next session of the ICAO assembly, to be held in September, and is maintaining close oversight of the situation.
