Air India speeding up fleet refurbishment program

The Star Alliance member is investing US$400 million to retrofit its fleet with new seats, the addition of premium economy cabins and the repainting of its fleet with its new livery. Five of its A320neos had been refurbished and are in service with 22 more of the single aisles to be retrofitted by September, Air India said. The airline has completed an interim heavy refresh of one 777-300ER, with 12 more to go through the process by November. Of the 198 aircraft in its fleet, 106 of them have been configured with new or upgraded cabin interiors, the airline said. “The retrofit program is an important step forward in Air India’s transformation journey,” Air India said. “It will provide a consistent experience across the fleet with a three-class cabin configuration including luxurious business class seats, India’s only premium economy cabin and an enhanced economy offering.”
