Business and restricted economy fares offering best prices for domestic travellers

Australia’s domestic passengers intending to fly business class or purchasing restricted economy tickets enjoyed air fare relief this month compared with a year ago. Read More » Australia’s Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics’ (BITRE) monthly report said restricted economy fares declined 40.6% (38.1 index points) to 55.7 points and the business class measure was 18% lower at 52.4 points. Potential travellers searching for the cheapest air tickets were likely disappointed as the best discount fare category rose 2.5 index points (4.3%) to 61.2 points. "The series is a price index of the lowest available fare in each fare class weighted over selected routes," BITRE said. "It does not measure real airline yields or average fares paid by passengers."
