Qantas Airways has told staff it considering shutting down its Canberra, Hobart and Mildura aircraft and crew bases to improve reliability and efficiency, local media reports, citing an email to staff. Read More » The airline group proposes the three bases be absorbed into its larger bases in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. The airline has about 70 cabin crew and pilots based in Canberra, Hobart and Mildura. It said it will start consultation with affected staff and their union representatives before making a final decision. The proposed closures have been criticised by Australia’s Transport Workers’ Union (TWU), politicians and regional communities.
