Australia’s domestic passengers intending to fly business class or purchase restricted economy tickets likely enjoyed significant air fare relief this month compared with a year ago. Read More » Australia’s Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics’ (BITRE) monthly report said restricted economy fares declined 35.1% to 61.6 points and the business class measure was 17.4% lower at 57.3 points. On a less positive note, travellers searching for the cheapest air tickets likely got hardly any fare relief this month as the best discount fare category fell by a slender 0.8% to 69.7 points. "The series is a price index of the lowest available fare in each fare class weighted over selected routes," BITRE said. "It does not measure real airline yields or average fares paid by passengers."
