China Eastern Airlines quarterly net profit up by a third

China Eastern Airlines (CEA) has reported net profit of 3.5 billion yuan (US$496 million) for the three months to September 30 2025, up 34.4% from net profit of 2.6 billion yuan in the prior year. Read More » Revenue rose 3.1% to 39.6 billion yuan, CEA said in a regulatory filing. The airline was also profitable for the nine months to September 30, posting a net profit of 2.1 billion yuan for the period, compared with a 138 million yuan loss in the same nine months in 2024. The SkyTeam alliance member said its bottom line was buoyed by efforts to strengthen its Shanghai hub through a "tri-flight" strategy, which involved flying farther, flying global and flying to emerging markets, as well as measures to control costs. "By actively capturing summer travel demand, it prioritised increasing frequencies on international routes to Europe, America, Japan, Korea, and North Africa," CEA said. "This led to year-on-year growth in total traffic turnover, passenger traffic, and passenger load factor."
