Qantas Airways will launch twice weekly nonstop flights between Sydney and Port Moresby in March next year. Read More » The route will be served with two-class 737-800 aircraft configured with 12 business and 162 economy seats. The oneworld alliance member, which already serves the Papua New Guinea (PNG) capital daily from Brisbane, said a resumption of nonstop flights from Sydney was in anticipation of increased sporting and leisure travel between the two cities, especially given the country will field a team in Australia’s National Rugby League in two years. "We’re seeing growth in business travel between Sydney and Port Moresby and that’s building further as PNG ramps up preparations for Australia’s premier rugby league competition in 2028," Qantas International CEO, Cam Wallace, said. "It’s great to have this service back and give customers more options. Combined with our daily Brisbane service, PNG has great connections to Australia’s two largest cities and access to our broader network." Currently, Air Niugini is the sole airline offering nonstop flights between Sydney and Port Moresby. The exact launch date was not disclosed.
