Read More » The photos on the Chinese social media present the prototype with registration number B-002U with the C919-600 designation on its fuselage. The newly rolled-out prototype is a shortened C919 passenger aircraft, developed by COMAC for the special operating environment of high-altitude routes, aiming to further improve the aircraft’s take-off and landing performance and operational adaptability at high-altitude airports. Its fuselage is shorter compared to the basic C919, and its seating capacity is set at 140-160 seats, putting the C919-600 in the same class as Airbus A319. COMAC has collected 40 orders for the C919-600 from Tibet Airlines. According to information available on the Mainland’s social media, the roll-out of the C919-600 will result in the update of the C919 models’ designations, bringing name consistency to the growing aircraft portfolio. The current basic model will be renamed C919-700. In the future, COMAC will develop other variations of the C919 family, including the -700ER extended-range version, and the extended-length C919-800, directly competing with the Airbus A321 and Boeing 737 MAX 10 aircraft.
