Echo Law, which brought the class action, had alleged Qantas failed to provide cash refunds or failed to provide refunds in a timely manner for cancelled flights and instead provided travel credits, as well as engaged in misleading or deceptive conduct by misleading customers about their rights on canceled flights. It further alleged Qantas "unlawfully benefited from customers by holding for years a very significant amount of customer funds that ought to have been refunded". Qantas said it had made a provision for this legal action in its financial accounts, with payments expected to be made in the July to December 2026 period. The provision in the accounts was A$55 million.
