South Korea’s SUM Air orders up to eight ATR 72-600 aircraft

Read More » On March 30, 2026, SUM Air launched commercial operations in South Korea, with the Gimpo Airport-Sacheon route operated by ATR72-600 aircraft. Founded in 2022, the carrier secured its Air Carrier License in early 2025 and Air Operator Certificate (AOC) ahead of the launch. The new regional carrier has a mission to connect underserved destinations, including secondary cities, future island airports, and short-haul international links to Japan and China, with turboprop aircraft. The inauguration of the service has been welcomed by the aircraft ATR. “Most airlines chase the busiest routes. SUM Air was built for the ones everyone else skipped,” the OEM commented on social media. “This is exactly what the ATR 72-600 was made for,” it added.
