Malaysia Airlines has asked passengers departing Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to pack essential items such as "medication, important travel documents and basic necessities" in their carryon luggage in response to issues with the baggage handling system (BHS) at its hub. Read More » A fault at a local electrical substation caused significant disruptions to KLIA’s baggage systems earlier this week, despite the airport having backup power supplies to ensure uninterrupted operations. The Malaysia Ministry of Transport has called on KLIA operator, Malaysia Airports Holdings, to overhaul its business continuity plan to build more resilience in its operations. The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia is investigating the incident. "Due to the BHS disruption, there is a possibility that checked baggage may not be loaded onto the scheduled flight in time for departure," Malaysia Airlines said. "Malaysia Airlines is working tirelessly with MAHB to resolve these technical challenges and restore normal operations. For passengers whose baggage is delayed, our ground teams are on standby to provide assistance and facilitate the subsequent delivery of luggage to your final destination. We sincerely apologise for this inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we work with the airport operator to safeguard your travel experience."
