IndiGo slumps to full year loss amid challenging operating environment

IndiGo has reported a net loss of 23.9 billion rupee (US$252 million) for the 12 months to March 31 2026, compared with net profit of 72.6 billion rupee in the prior fiscal year. Read More » Revenue rose 5.1% to 849.6 billion rupee, IndiGo said in a regulatory filing. Costs increased by 17.2% to 896.8 billion rupee. The full year loss came after a particularly difficult final quarter of the fiscal year - IndiGo reported a net loss of 25.4 billion rupee for the three months to March 31 2026, a 30 billion decline from net profit of 5.5 billion rupee in the same three-month period in 2025. "FY26 was marked by an exceptionally challenging operating environment, which materially impacted our profitability," IndiGo managing director, Rahul Bhatia, said. "Despite these conditions, the underlying performance of the business remained resilient." Bhatia noted the company achieved a profit of 75 billion rupee for the full year when the impact of foreign exchange movements and exceptional items were excluded. "We continue to maintain a strong balance sheet with substantial liquidity, demonstrating resilience through prolonged periods of volatility. While the near term remains volatile, we remain firmly focused on disciplined execution, cost efficiency, and long-term value creation."
