Hainan Airlines expands Malaysia network with new Penang route

Hainan Airlines will start nonstop flights to Penang in Malaysia from its Haikou hub in October. Read More » The new service is scheduled to operate as an afternoon departure from Haikou and a late evening departure from Penang twice a week with 737-800 aircraft. The inaugural service is on October 11. "Flights will run every Wednesday and Sunday, bringing convenient non‑stop access straight to Haikou," Hainan Airlines said in a social media post. "Whether you plan a relaxing beach retreat, city sightseeing or cross‑border business trip, this new route opens the door to all that Haikou has to offer." Penang will be Hainan Airlines’ second destination in Malaysia alongside existing service to Kuala Lumpur from Chongqing, Haikou and Qionghai. Currently, no airlines fly nonstop between Haikou and Kuala Lumpur. 9Air has previously operated charter services on the route.
