Vietjet to start flights to new Western Sydney airport in 2027

Vietjet and Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSI) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) which includes a commitment for the LCC to commence nonstop flights from Ho Chi Minh City to the new airport from January 9 2027. Read More » The new nonstop service is scheduled to operate twice a week as an overnight flight from Ho Chi Minh City and lunchtime departure from WSI. "Vietjet is proud to be among the first airlines to connect Vietnam with Western Sydney – Australia’s newest international aviation gateway and an emerging centre of economic growth," Vietjet CEO Nguyen Thanh Son said. "With our expanding network, modern fleet and quality services, Vietjet looks forward to supporting stronger, more productive and sustainable ties between Vietnam and Australia." WSI CEO, Simon Hickey, said: “We’re thrilled that tickets will go on sale today for the initial services set to commence in January 2027. Western Sydney is one of the nation’s most diverse and rapidly growing regions that is proudly home to more than half of Greater Sydney’s Vietnamese population – over 70,000 people – who regularly visit friends and relatives." The MoU was signed at an industry forum in Sydney yesterday (August 10) attended by Vietnam deputy prime minister and minister for defence, Phan Van Giang. WSI is scheduled to commence passenger operations in October. Currently, Jetstar Airways, VietJet and Vietnam Airlines fly between Sydney Kingsford Smith and Ho Chi Minh City. Vietnam Airlines also flies to Kingsford Smith from Hanoi.
