Thai Airways records steep decline in second quarter’s profit

Thai Airways International (THAI) reported a net profit of 1.54 billion baht (US$ 45.6 million) for the second quarter of 2026, down from 12.13 billion baht in the same period last year. Read More » The decline was attributed to the 29.7% year-on-year growth of expenses to 44.93 billion baht, mainly because of higher jet fuel prices resulting from the conflict in the Middle East. Average fuel prices were 104.6% higher than in the same quarter last year, the carrier said. At the same time, revenue was 48.62 billion baht, up 3.79 billion baht, marking an 8.5% year-on-year increase.
As of June 30, THAI operated a fleet of 84 aircraft, with average utilization of 12.9 hours per aircraft per day. The airline carried 3.66 million passengers during the quarter. Capacity (ASK) fell 4.4% year-on-year to 16.78 billion seat-kilometers, after the airline reduced flights in response to the Middle East conflict and weaker passenger demand. Passenger traffic (RPK) declined 11.3%, lowering the average cabin factor to 71.5%, from 77% in the same period last year.
