Korean Air-Asiana merger enters final phase with both airlines’ board approvals

Read More » Asiana Airlines secured shareholder approval during an extraordinary general meeting, with 81.86% shareholder attendance and 99.3% (167,436,677 shares) voting in favor. KAL described it as a major milestone as the two airlines prepare to launch an integrated airline on December 17, 2026. “With merger approvals finalized, the two airlines are accelerating operational readiness, focusing on systems integration, joint training, and team engagement ahead of the launch,” KAL said in the statement. According to local media, the major challenge is integrating the two carriers’ mileage programs and effectively integrating the two airlines’ corporate cultures.
Once integration is finalized at the end of this year, KAL will be serving more than 120 destinations worldwide, with a fleet of over 230 aircraft and a workforce of approximately 28,000 people. Its annual revenue is forecast to exceed 23 trillion won ($16.25 billion).
