United boosts Japan network with new Okinawa route and third Osaka nonstop

United Airlines will launch two new nonstop routes between the U.S. and Japan in March 2027. Read More » The Star Alliance member is adding Okinawa to its Japan network with three flights a week from its San Francisco hub. United plans to serve the route with 777-200ER aircraft. It will be the only airline offering nonstop flights between the U.S. and Okinawa. United is also adding a new daily flight between Los Angeles and Osaka Kansai with 787-9 equipment. Los Angeles will be United’s third route to Osaka alongside existing flights from Guam and San Francisco. It has not flown nonstop between Los Angeles and Osaka since 1999. Both San Francisco-Okinawa and Los Angeles-Kansai are scheduled to take off from March 27 next year. Okinawa was one of 10 new international destinations the airline announced overnight (HK time). "We’ve added flights to nearly 60 new international cities in the last decade, building a global network with the breadth and reach to set travel trends and inspire even the most discerning travellers to discover somewhere new," United senior vice president of global network planning and alliances, Patrick Quayle, said.
