Thai Airways International suspends Chai Eamsiri as CEO

Chai Eamsiri has been removed as Thai Airways International (THAI) CEO with immediate effect amid the airline’s operational failures during the recent severe flooding in the Thailand capital, Bangkok. Read More » The company told the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) on Friday (October 2) Chai had been "suspended" by the board while it undertook a fact-finding investigation to review the airline’s crisis management processes. The board appointed director Sumrid Sumneing, as acting CEO. "The company reaffirms its commitment to maintaining the confidence of its customers, stakeholders, and the public, as well as safeguarding the best interests of its shareholders as a whole," THAI said in a regulatory filing. "Should there be any material developments or conclusions, the company will further notify the SET accordingly." The Star Alliance member cancelled scores of flights during the recent flooding in Thailand, while thousands of checked baggage items were unable to be delivered. Of the flights which did operate, most were delayed. Chai had publicly apologised for the impact on customers. While the airline’s statement described the removal of Chai as THAI CEO as a suspension, Chai told local media he had been sacked.
