ANA parent returns to profit for first time since pandemic’s outbreak

ANA HOLDINGS INC, parent company of All Nippon Airways, has reported a net profit of 19.5 billion yen (US$131,235 million) for the six months to September 30, a near 120 billion yen turnaround from a 98.8 billion yen net loss in the same period in 2021. Read More » Operating revenue rose 83.4%, to 790.7 billion yen, ANA HOLDINGS INC. said in a Tokyo Stock Exchange regulatory filing. “The positive interim fiscal year results demonstrate the progress we have made since the pandemic began and the determination and effort of our employees to put the ANA Group in a favourable financial and operational position,” ANA executive vice president and group chief financial officer, Kimihiro Nakahori, said. “The perseverance and dedication of our employees is propelling the ANA Group to overcome the challenging times. We look forward to seeing the continued increase as customers once again visit Japan.”

The company has upgraded its financial forecast to a full-year net profit of 40 billion yen to March 31, 2023. The estimate is almost double the group’s April forecast of 21 billion yen for the 12 months. ANA reported an annual net loss of 143.6 billion yen to March 31, 2022. “In air transportation operations, the recovery in international passenger demand is growing on the back of Japan's relaxed border restrictions,” ANA said. “In addition, we expect gains from the sale of aircraft assets and also foreign exchange to exceed expectations.”
