China Southern Airlines slumps to US$103 million loss

China Southern Airlines (CSA) has reported a net loss of 747 million yuan (US$103 million) for the three months to March 31, a turnaround of more than 1.5 billion yuan from a net profit of 756 million yuan in the same months in 2024. Read More » Revenue declined 2.7% to 43.4 billion yuan, CSA said in a regulatory filing. Net cash flow from operating activities declined 54.7%, to 4.4 billion yuan in the quarter, China’s biggest airline reported. The decline in financial performance was primarily due to “shifts in traveler demographics, competitive pressures from high-speed rail networks, global supply chain constraints” and the depreciation of the yuan against the US dollar, CSA said.
