Read More » Passengers were able to add their passport details through the Air NZ app, which was then verified at online checkin and then linked to biometric information, such as a facial scan, at the airport. "This trial shows how digital identity could help create a more seamless journey, while also improving security through encrypted data and customer-controlled information sharing," Air NZ chief customer and digital officer, Jeremy O’Brien, said. "Our ambition is to make travel easier from start to finish. That means fewer document checks, less time queueing and a smoother experience overall." The trial was conducted in partnership with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Travel Directory, Hong Kong International Airport flight token framework and the N.Z. government’s traveller declaration. The Star Alliance member said it was working closely with government agencies and industry partners to further develop the use of digital ID during the passenger journey. "Air New Zealand will now explore a broader pilot and options to trial the technology across different ports, with Australia a key focus for the next phase," Air NZ said.
