"We have proposition that works in Asia," says Embraer
June 10th 2026
Presentation of Embraer’s products, engineering, and business philosophy was the main theme of IATA Embraer Experience Day 2026. Read More » The OEM, which in its home country, Brazil, is not merely a company, but has a status close to one of national symbols, decided to join the celebrations of the fact that the International Air Transport Association (IATA) held its 82nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) & World Air Transport Summit (WATS) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, hosted by LATAM Airlines Group, and offered some media professionals participating in the event the opportunity to learn more about the company.
The chance to experience Embraer’s product came when the OEM shuttled the media pool from Rio de Janeiro to its production site in São José dos Campos, São Paulo, aboard the company’s Embraer E195-E2, soon to be delivered to the client. Francisco Gomes Neto, president and CEO of Embraer Group, presented the company structure, its engineering heritage, and business performance. Arjan Meijer, president and CEO of the Commercial Aviation unit, offered a presentation on the advantages of Embraer commercial jets, not shying away from comparing the company’s products to the A220 offered by Airbus.
According to Meijer, the E2 family offers greater reliability than A220 (99.5% vs. 99%). E2 family is a better fit for the GTF engine - lower weight and better aerodynamics require lower thrust, he said, pointing out statistics showing that Embraer jets experienced three times fewer engine-related events (14 events per million EFH, compared to A220’s 43 events per million EFH). As of May 2026, only 1% of E2 jets were grounded due to engine problems.
The knowledge of the E2’s good performance is spreading in the industry, resulting in the growing number of recent orders from current and new clients, Meijer said, mentioning All Nippon Airways (ANA) as one of the brands Embraer is particularly very happy to welcome to the E2 family.
Embraer sees several ways it can deliver value to operators in the Asia-Pacific region.
"We are looking at turboprop operations. We still have many turboprop routes where the E2 could be a very good replacement aircraft. So that’s one area," Meijer told Orient Aviation Daily Digest. "We can help with more frequent frequencies to small destinations, so more detailed development," he added, showing Scoot as an airline following this route with 22 destinations, half of which are new, operated with E2 jets. "We really believe it’s the tool Asia can use to build a connection to smaller cities, and it is hugely complementary to Airbus A320 and A321 size," Meijer explained. "There has always been a lot of focus in Asia on seat cost. We believe in the world, that is more challenging, whether it is fuel price or airport cost, airlines will also have to look at which aircraft has the most optimal operating cost. And the 195 E2 offers 25% lower trip cost than the A320. OK, you get fewer seats. But the cost per seat is still the same. So you can have more seats, when no one sits on a seat, or someone is sitting on a seat, who is not even paying the cost of that seat. You’d better find a smaller aircraft. That’s why we call it Profit Hunter," Meijer said. "Across these three lines- turboprop advancements, smaller destinations roll, and complementing narrow-bodies with much smarter aircraft- we believe we have a proposition that works in Asia," he concluded.
The IATA Embraer Experience Day 2026 concluded with the visit to the final assembly line. One of the highlights was unveiling by LATAM Airlines its first already painted E195-E2 jet. he aircraft, which will begin joining the company’s fleet in the fourth quarter of 2026, will play a role in expanding connectivity across Brazil.
