International Air Transport Association (IATA) director of safety, Mark Searle, has highlighted the importance of people, technology and standards working in combination to maintaining and improving safety standards at the IATA World Safety and Operations Conference in Istanbul. Read More » People are "enablers" to ensure the system works as it should and technology helps people make better decisions, while the next step change in safety will come from making sure existing standards are understood, implemented and overseen consistently everywhere. "People. Technology. Standards. Not three priorities to pursue independently, but three parts of the same safety system," Seale told delegates in prepared remarks. "When one is weak, the resilience of the whole system is reduced. And that is where the next step change will come from. Not from any one of the three on its own, but from making all three work better together. Our goal has not changed: zero accidents and zero fatalities."
